Sometimes letters to The Bee have unintended good ideas. One such letter said that we should not prohibit the sale of certain guns like AK-47s with 30-bullet clips because it would be like our efforts of trying to curb illegal drug use. The writer asked, "How are those laws doing?"
The logic there appears to me to be, Hey, the war on drugs is a waste of effort and money, why do the same with guns? If that is the case, we should legalize all drugs for the same reason we should keep the purchase of all guns legal, since banning either is not effective.
It is not illegal to be a heroin addict; why should it be illegal to be a gun addict? I know, the Constitution does not guarantee our right to be a drug addict, but neither does it guarantee our right to be a gun addict.
