Can we as a nation please dismiss the idea that owning a gun somehow protects our freedoms and liberties from being taken away by the government? Does anyone seriously believe that the American military, the most powerful in the world, could be stopped by a few citizens and their rifles? That argument might have held up in the 19th century, but not in the age of fighter jets, tanks and drone strikes.
There are much better arguments for why citizens should own guns, so let's dismiss this one and continue the debate in a more productive manner.
