On the heels of their triple overtime victory Saturday, the Modesto Junior College men's basketball team rallied to beat visiting Sierra 85-83 Tuesday.

Tashawn Mabry scored 17 of his 20 points in the final 10 minutes and Mike Hill led all scorers with 28, scoring 17 in the second half.

Sierra didn't score in the final three minutes while the Pirates went on an 11-2 run to end the game. Modesto trailed by 22 points with 10 minutes to play.

"It was fun for me," coach Paul Brogan said. "The players didn't quit. A lot of times when you come back like that, you get within six or seven points and you can't get over the hump. We did.

"We were down 79-60 with six minutes left. Mike and Tashawn carried us."

Pogos Prunyanb scored 20 points for Sierra in the first half, including five consecutive 3-pointers. But he scored just two points in the second half.

Free throws helped the Sierra women surge to a 69-62 victory over Modesto JC.

The Pirates (14-7, 3-4 Big 8) jumped to an 18-5 lead, but needed a 26-6 run to pull within two points with a minute left. Sierra (15-6, 6-1 Big 8) made seven of eight free throw attempts in the final 1:08 to win.

Camille Roberts and Jamie Beck led MJC with 15 points each. Jode Johnson added 11.
