Look at abortion appreciated

Thank you for the article on Chrissy Aguiar and her Modesto Pregnancy Center (Jan. 20, features section) At the heart of that article is someone who has looked at both sides of the issue of abortion and found out that the purported easy solution does not prevent suffering.

There is no doubt that this country is now so addicted to abortion that to make it illegal again would literally cause rioting and murder in the streets by its advocates.

Its necessity stems from its use as a backup when contraception fails. Contraception is necessary when the users have an incomplete commitment to each other. This is extremely common in relationships these days.

The Jan. 24 letter from the good doctor ("Banning abortion has consequences") reminding us of the horrors of making it unavailable cogently speaks to the depth of the blindness that is so deeply ingrained in our culture.
