Local Digest: MJC basketball at home tonight

The Modesto Junior College men's and women's basketball teams return to MJC Gym for Big 8 Conference games against Diablo Valley. The Modesto men (9-9, 1-4) have lost five of their last six despite a Big 8 win over Sacramento. The women (14-5, 3-2) will try to improve their status for the playoffs. The women begin at 5:30, followed by the men.

FERNANDEZ INTO SACRAMENTO HOF - Riverbank runner German Fernandez will join the charter class of inductees of the Sacramento Runners Association Hall of Fame tonight at 6 p.m. at Sacramento's Sheraton Grand Hotel. Fernandez will be honored for his stirring double in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the 2008 State CIF Track and Field Championships and — after he went on to Oklahoma State — his NCAA title in the 1,500 meters in 2009.
