MODESTO — Modesto police are looking for a Latino driving a silver Corvette who two women say tried to lure them into his car Wednesday night at the Plaza Parkway shopping center.
Police said the first incident was reported at 5:26 p.m. A woman was parked in her car when she noticed a man driving around the parking lot. He parked next to her and then tried to open her car door in an attempt to get her to go with him. The woman was able to drive away and leave the shopping center.
The second incident was reported at 8:58 p.m. A woman told police she had been parked near the Kohl's department store when a man parked in space in front of her. The woman thought this was odd and decided to leave.
She told police the man then followed her as she drove in and out of several isles in the parking lot. She then pulled into a parking space, and the man stopped behind her, partialy blocking her in. The woman put her car in reverse and man let her pull out.
As the woman drove away, the man pulled up alongside her driver's side and brandished a handgun and yelled at her to get out of her car. The woman drove off, and the man followed her for a short distance.
In both incidents, the man was driving a late 1990s or early 2000s silver Corvette. The man is described as a Latino in his 20s or 30s with a muscular build and a crew cut. His hair is believed to be dark.
