In response to "NRA went too far this time" (Jan. 22, Letters) about the NRA advertisement: I am an NRA member and so are 60 percent of the of the U.S. legislature and 4.3 million Americans.

No one believes that the president and his family should not be protected. Bringing his daughters into any political discussion should be off limits. Yet the use of children did not deter the president in his presentation on his gun agenda. Both instances are out of line and actually off topic.

Ignorance often forms opinion. For anyone to say there is no sporting or hunting purpose in certain types of firearms or ammunition feeding devices is incorrect. They have never considered the millions of Americans who on a weekly basis use these devices in sporting events, never injuring another person. The millions of people employed by the firearms, ammunition, hunting, sporting goods industries whose livelihood depends upon Americans being able to access the right given to them by the constitution.

There is a larger discussion we must have on this gun issue and it begins in the heart of man not on an inanimate object.
