Modesto is inviting applications for several of its citizen advisory bodies, which offer an opportunity for people who want to learn more about local government and gain some experience if they plan to run for office some day.

The following bodies have or will have vacancies:

The Housing Rehabilitation Loan Committee, which develops procedures and policies for the housing rehabilitation loan fund as well as the down payment assistance program, eligibility and extent of governmental and private sector commitment of funds, and makes recommendations to the Citizens Housing and Community Development Committee

Landmark Preservation Commission, which identifies historical sites, provides information on historical preservation to the public, works to preserve historical structures, reviews changes in historical sites to maintain their historical integrity and reports its finding to the City Council

The Culture Commission, which advises the City Council in all matters pertaining to art, literature, music, the McHenry Mansion and McHenry Museum and other cultural activities

The Golf Course Advisory Committee, a liaison for and between the golfing community, golf clubs and the city to promote the game in the area

The Entertainment Commission, which oversees the permit process for dances and other special events and encourages the development of new entertainment businesses
