OAKDALE — A Waterford woman suffered major injuries Tuesday when her sport utility vehicle was broadsided and flipped over another vehicle and onto its roof in a field south of Oakdale.
About 3:30 p.m., Tara Sydnor, 53, was driving a Ford Escape east on Patterson Road as Frances Rocha, 83, of Modesto was driving a Chevy Silverado north on Bentley Road, said California Highway Patrol officer Eric Parsons.
Traffic on Patterson is not controlled, but traffic on Bentley must stop at the intersection. Parsons does not know if Rocha failed to stop or stopped and then continued through the intersection without yielding, but her vehicle ran into the side of Sydnor's Ford.
Based on skid marks and damage to the vehicles, it appears that the Ford then rolled over the top of a westbound GMC Jimmy, said officer Don Davis.
It continued over a barbed wire fence and came to rest on its hood in a pasture, he said.
Sydnor was taken to a Modesto hospital with major injuries. She is expected to survive. The driver of the GMC, Robert Jones, 55, of Modesto, had minor injuries. Rocha was not injured.
