MODESTO -- A two-alarm fire damaged a north Modesto home Sunday afternoon, but no injuries were reported and the resident made it out safely.
The fire occurred at the home in the 1400 block of Higbee Drive, just west of Tully Road. It first was reported as a kitchen fire, but it was unclear where the fire started.
When firefighters arrived, the flames had spread into the walls and the attic, according to the Modesto Regional Fire Authority. Fire officials called for a second alarm because of the heavy smoke, the fire's spread and the risk of flames reaching the home's wood shake roof.
