People gather in Modesto to rally for gun rights

— About 40 people gathered for a gun appreciation rally, organized by the Tea Party Patriots of Modesto, at Briggsmore and McHenry avenues in Modesto at midday on Saturday.

The Modesto event promoting Second Amendment rights was held in conjunction with similar events around the United States to rally against stricter limits on firearms.

The rallies, organized primarily through social media, were being held just after President Barack Obama unveiled a sweeping package of federal gun-control proposals.
