Still not an excuse for lying

Congratulations to Sheree Lustgarten and the city of Patterson, who have set the precedent that it is OK to lie if it is for a good reason.

I sympathize with Lustgarten's past, but she deliberately lied on The Bee questionnaire. Her excuse was that she thought that a bankruptcy no longer existed after 7 to 10 years. Translated: She thought that she could lie and nobody would find out.

The respectful thing to do would be to resign her position and run in the next election. Why is she even contesting this?

To everyone out there who had a rough go of things, the message is loud and clear: It is OK to lie if you can justify it with a good backstory.

Many of us have had hardships in life, but that doesn't mean that they are now allowed to be a liar.
