Oakdale dirt bike crash likely to cost man his leg

OAKDALE -- A 25-year-old man likely will lose his leg after he crashed his dirt bike in Oakdale on Thursday.

Oakdale Fire Department Capt. Dave Peterson said crews were dispatched to the 700 block of Branding Iron Street about 3:45 p.m. on a report of a solo motorcycle accident and found the driver lying on the ground with a partially severed lower right leg.

"It was attached, but there is a good chance he is going to lose it," Peterson said.

He said he didn't know how the accident occurred or what caused the traumatic injury to the man's leg.

The man was alert and talking to emergency workers, and was taken by helicopter to a Modesto hospital.
