-- A bicyclist suffered major injuries when he was hit by a pickup truck on Yosemite Boulevard in Empire on Thursday.

About 2:45 p.m., the driver of a Dodge Ram heading west on Yosemite east of Santa Fe Avenue swerved to the left across eastbound lanes and into the bike lane, said California Highway Patrol officer Anthony Palazuelos.

The truck hit a man on his bicycle before ending up on the sidewalk on the south side of the road. Skid marks could be seen behind the vehicle on the sidewalk.

The white truck, seen at right in the photo, was parked there before the accident and had nothing to do with it.

Palazuelos said the bicyclist suffered major but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver was questioned at the scene.

Their names, as well as what caused the collision, were not immediately available.
