Calaveras crashes led to DUI arrests

CALAVERAS COUNTY -- California Highway Patrol officers in Calaveras County arrested two people on charges of driving under the influence after separate accidents.

In the first, the CHP arrested an 18-year-old after her car went off the road and hit two trees. According to the CHP, Jennifer Moulton of Valley Springs was driving a Saturn south on Hartvickson Lane at 6:55 p.m. Thursday when the car went off the right side of the road. The right front of the car hit a tree, then the car kept going and the left front hit another tree, the CHP said.

The force of the second collision sent the car spinning. Moulton, who was alone in the car, suffered minor injuries. She failed a sobriety test and was arrested, the CHP said.

In the second accident, Jack Hume, 61, of Avery was driving west on Highway 4 in a Mitsubishi Montero at 7:55 p.m. Sunday when he missed a turn in the road. The car hit the ice-covered road shoulder, then overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

The car was totaled, but Hume received only minor injuries. He also was arrested.
