NEWMAN -- Two Orestimba High School students were hospitalized and three were sent to juvenile hall after marijuana baked goods made their way around campus Monday.
A 14-year-old boy brought marijuana-laced brownies and cookies to the high school Monday and sold them to two 15-year-old boys, said police Lt. Brett Short.
The two 15-year-old boys then gave the cookies and brownies to at least four students, who ate them at school.
Word of the pot brownies and cookies got back to school resource officer Miguel Villalobos, who identified the original suspects.
Short said the 14-year-old was booked at juvenile hall on suspicion of selling drugs and child endangerment. The two 15-year-olds also were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs on campus and child endangerment.
The four students known to have eaten the laced baked goods — two girls and two boys — were cited and released for being under the influence of drugs.
The two girls went to the hospital after the marijuana food made them ill.
Fewer than 10 of the cookies and brownies were known to have been sold or distributed to students, Short said.
Newman police advise parents of children who come home with a cookie or brownie to dispose of it.
