Modesto man identified as fatal victim in Newman wreck

NEWMAN -- A Modesto man was identified Monday as the person killed in a single-vehicle rollover near Newman over the weekend.

Jose Francisco Reos Gonzalez, 40, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet north on Villa Manucha Road near Azevedo Road when he lost control about 4:55 p.m., said California Highway Patrol officer Charlie Wright.

Gonzalez drove at high speed through a right curve in the road, Wright said. The Chevrolet overturned and Gonzalez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.

The CHP is investigating whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
