Mother, son arrested on theft charges in Turlock

TURLOCK -- A mom's attempt to help her son out of a theft charge ended with the arrest of both of them, Turlock police said.

According to reports, workers at Kohl's department store on Countryside Drive said they stopped Evan Rice, 23, after seeing him take a watch about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

As the workers spoke with Rice, mother Cheryl Rice, 56, approached and said the watch belonged to her son, police said. She took the watch and they left the store, police said.

Officers found mother and son and took both into custody on charges of petty theft.
