New Modesto police chief to be sworn in

MODESTO -- The public is invited to today's swearing-in ceremony of Modesto's new police chief, Galen Carroll.

The ceremony is from 3 to 4 p.m. in the basement chamber of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.

Carroll has more than 18 years in law enforcement, nearly all of them with the Long Beach Police Department, where he most recently served as a commander.

Police Chief Mike Harden retired in August after 28 years with the department. Capt. Gene Balentine has served as interim chief.
