It's 3 in the morning. A semi pulls up in your driveway and starts blaring its horn. Oh, wait! That isn't a truck. It's the M&ET locomotive inching its way through Modesto back to Empire, with blaring horn every inch of the way.

I moved to the La Loma area because it was nice. It used to be anyway. The city fathers have allowed big business to drive away the people who made this a great neighborhood. A lot of great kids and families grew up here amidst the park and trees.

I can stand the homeless defecating in our flower bed and coming up our driveway at night going through our trash cans. However, to be awakened night after night by air horns that are owned by M&ET and sanctioned by the city of Modesto is impossible to accept.

Our city's stand on this issue is doing irreparable harm to the citizens of Modesto and its infrastructure.

It is time for M&ET and the city to stop this illegal activity — now.

LESTER BOWMAN
