Deadbeat dads, forest fires

I have always failed to understand why so many couples have babies but do not get married. The answer came in the Dec. 29 letter "Men, support your kids."

By not getting married, pregnant women can get free government-paid doctors and hospital services. Most will also get welfare, food stamps and medical care regardless of the wealth and income of the father.

I do not expect the Obama administration to correct this because these are among the blocks of voters who vote Democrat.

When deadbeat dads fail to pay child support, they should be sent to work camps, cleaning dead brush from the nation's forests. This should result in a big decrease in damage from forest fires and would save money and provide a cleaner environment.

It would also result in much more child support being paid and happier families.
