Why can't we have nice roads?

The letter "Do road work all at one time" (Dec. 31) touched a nerve. Why is it in Modesto we can't have smooth roads and coordinate this at the same time, so we have smooth roads in Stanislaus County and the city of Modesto?

I realize Yosemite Boulevard is for the most part a Caltrans responsibility. It's ridiculous how the roads in this town get a fresh layer of pavement and few months later another patch of uneven road again! It's just poor planning. You should have seen the patch job on Claus Road. Not only did they patch it, they made a speed bump or hole in the middle lane.
