TURLOCK -- Donors responded quickly to a Turlock cold-weather homeless shelters plea for help with its laundry.
We Care, a shelter that houses 38 men and is in its 10th season, put out a request for washing machines last month after one of its three broke down and a second was faltering.
The shelter has a heavy laundry load, processing bed linens, blankets and quilts every night.
After The Bee published an item on the need, a few other local news organizations picked it up and did the same. The result: donations of five washing machines, two dryers and money to help purchase laundry supplies.
It is a wonderful blessing to have such a compassionate and committed community, the organization said in an email to supporters. We are appreciative of the ongoing support that our community provides.
