MODESTO -- The first workday of the new year for many folks is off to a chilly start in Modesto.
Temperatures this morning dipped below freezing, hovering in the high 20s and low 30s. Later in the day, forecasters were expecting partly cloudy conditions, with light winds and highs in the low 50s.
The California Highway Patrols Central Division sent a message to its Twitter followers this morning, advising them to take extra time to warm up their cars.
That message was quickly followed by a reminder from the CHP dispatchers that drivers should stay with their cars while they warm up so it does not leave for work before you do!
Car thieves are known to strike when people leave their cars running outside to warm up.
The rest of the week and into the weekend looks like much of the same partly cloudy, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. According to the National Weather Service, theres no potential rain ahead at least until next week.
