(Debbie Noda/dnoda@modbee.com) On Dec. 18, 2012, the Salvation Army was worried about its dwindling supply of bikes and other toys.

DEBBIE NODA — Modesto Bee

Thank you, thank you to the people of our community! A continuous stream of generous people bearing toys came to The Salvation Army for three days after the article in The Bee pointing out the lack of Christmas toys for needy children. It was amazing and heartwarming! And, it filled the need for all those on our list.

We were able to distribute 9,165 toys to 3,055 children, along with large food boxes to 1,439 families. We could not have done it without the wonderful people of our area. We also thank the around 250 volunteers who came and helped in the pouring rain.
