Modesto's new year greeted with cold

MODESTO -- 2013 is going to get off to a frosty start in the Northern San Joaquin Valley.

Forecasters don’t expect temperatures to hit 50 in the area today, and call for a drop to below freezing tonight.

The National Weather Service expects much of the same for the next few days, with areas of morning and evening frost giving way to sunny days with highs in the low 50s and lows down into the 20s.

Our next chance at rain - and snow in the foothills — is expected to come Thursday, when clouds move in to the area.
