Arming teachers a bad idea

Regarding the letter "Stop school shootings: Arm teachers" (Dec. 28): Suggesting teachers should carry guns is ridiculous on several levels.

What kind of gun should teachers carry? Is a 22-year-old first-grade teacher going to have the state of mind to get the gun and shoot accurately? Anyone intent on shooting a classroom full of kids is going to take out the teacher first. Is the teacher of sound mind to be armed? What if he or she is having a bad day and decides to take it out on the kids? Who is going to pay for the guns? Schools have no money.

Anyone suggesting teachers should be armed really needs to get a reality check.
