— The California Highway Patrol is investigating a collision that happened in west Modesto in which a man and a woman fled from the responsible car with a child.

The driver of a Mercury heading south on Vernon Avenue ran the stop sign at Robertson Road and collided with a Chevrolet pickup heading west about 5 p.m., according to the CHP.

The Chevrolet spun into the front yard of a vacant house at the southwest corner of the intersection, running over a white picket fence and hitting the home.

The damage to the home was minor, and the driver of the Chevrolet and his passengers were not injured.

The male driver of the Mercury and a female passenger fled the scene with a child, the CHP reported, and were being sought.
