-- Modesto police made one arrest after an apparent gunshot victim was driven by a private vehicle to Doctors Medical Center early Saturday.

Jeffrey Samora, 22, was arrested after officers found he had a gun with the serial number removed, Lt. Jolene Gonzales said. About 1 a.m., an officer on burglary patrol saw a vehicle speeding through the parking lot at Doctors. The driver stopped the car and helped the passenger with a gunshot wound to the abdomen go into the hospital.

The injury was not life-threatening, police said. Samora, who was in the back seat, jumped into the front seat to try to take off, but was detained by the officer, Gonzales said.

Stanislaus County sheriff's officials were investigating a late-night shooting reported near Avon Street and Sonora Avenue but did not return messages from The Bee.
