— A roof fire Friday evening caused about $30,000 worth of damage to the Taco Bell on East Whitmore Avenue in Ceres, officials said.

Ceres Battalion Chief Brian Hunt said the fire started about 7:30 p.m. near a water heater on the roof. Ceres firefighters had to tear through the ceiling to extinguish the flames.

Damage was not extensive but debris fell into the restaurant, requiring a health inspection, Hunt said.
