Stamps not being canceled

Has anyone noticed? During this holiday season when we get extra cards and holiday mail, I am amazed at the number of letters that come through without the stamps being canceled. Why is this happening? Are the machines too fast? Is there no one paying attention? Have we been granted free postage? No wonder the post office is losing money!
