-- Enforcement aimed at pulling drunk drivers off the road this holiday season continues this weekend with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols in Stanislaus County.

The enforcement is scheduled to continue each weekend through New Year's Eve as part of the Avoid the 12 campaign, which consists of all 12 law enforcement agencies in the county.

There will be a sobriety checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location in Riverbank, along with saturation patrols in Modesto and Ceres. The patrols are carried out by officers assigned solely to look for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The effort continues Sunday with more saturation patrols in Modesto and Ceres.

The special enforcement is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.

In a separate effort, the California Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint tonight in an unincorporated area of Merced County. Officers at all the checkpoints also will look for those driving without a valid license.
