Reconsider God's role in schools

As the debate about gun control takes center stage, I believe that we Christians need to change the debate. In 1962 our Supreme Court pretty much told God that he has no business in the public school. I would assume that God does not go where he is not wanted. In all of my years as a student and as a teacher, I don't remember being made to pray. However, after 1962 it was emphasized that we could not pray.

During my 42 years as a teacher, I started every day with a personal prayer for safety for my students and myself. I know of at least two incidents where God protected me and my students from possible gun violence. One was a direct threat of violence and the other was a student outside my classroom with a loaded gun, threatening one of my students.

I have a suggestion. Could we start as a community to ask for God's safety and blessing in our public schools? Perhaps some parent groups could band together for this purpose.
