Police investigate car-train accident in Modesto

— A woman was hospitalized Monday afternoon after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed into a train.

About 1 p.m., the male driver of a blue Honda minivan was traveling west on Yosemite Boulevard near Conejo Avenue when the car in front of him stopped and he had to slam on his brakes to avoid it, according to Modesto police.

The Honda spun out of control, crossing eastbound lanes on Yosemite and crashing into a stopped train on the tracks alongside the street. A portion of the right side of the van was wedged beneath a train car.

The passenger in the Honda was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene, authorities said. The road — wet because of rain — was determined to be a factor in the crash.
