MODESTO -- Saying goodbye Tuesday to longtime General Manager Allen Short should take a few minutes. The rest of the Modesto Irrigation District board agenda could take hours.
The board is scheduled to revisit labor agreements with employees, whose contracts expired four years ago. Board members had deadlocked 2-2 in September on a previously negotiated deal featuring significant raises for some workers. Also, the board will take up two items related to pension reform.
Tuesday's agenda additionally features:
Consideration of three contracts related to botched work in the expansion of a treatment plant supplying tap water to Modesto customers
Final payments to Martino Graphics, whose umbrella public-relations contract sparked controversy over "hidden" payments to subcontractors
Selection of a board president. Questions over the position's authority have stirred debate among board members. They will choose a vice president and secretary, as well. Whether the board will name an interim successor to Short, whose last day is Dec. 31, could not be determined.
An agricultural water management plan required by state and federal officials, focused on efficiency
Tuesday's board meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the district office, 1231 11th St., Modesto.
