According to an Internet search, the president's salary is $400,000, including a $50,000 business expense allowance. Modesto's new police chief will be paid $175,000 per year. What makes our local top cop's pay worth 44 percent of the president's? Why is this job worth $175,000 to the city of Modesto?
I'm not questioning anything about the new chief, but I am wondering how the city arrived at this salary. Our city leaders and The Bee should explain this to the citizens. A similar explanation on other government salaries also would be interesting to know.
