Enforcement aimed at pulling drunk drivers off the road this holiday season continues tonight with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols in Stanislaus County.

The enforcement is scheduled to continue each weekend through New Year’s Eve as part of the Avoid the 12 campaign, which consists of all 12 law enforcement agencies in the county.

There will be sobriety checkpoints tonight at undisclosed locations in Modesto, Ceres and Patterson, along with saturation patrols in Modesto.

The patrols are carried out by officers assigned solely to look for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Checkpoints are planned for Saturday night in Modesto and Patterson. Officers will be looking for drivers without valid licenses at all the checkpoints. More saturation patrols will be deployed Saturday night in Modesto and Sunday night in Modesto and Ceres.

The special enforcement is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
