OAKDALE -- Police on Wednesday were looking for two men who attacked and robbed at gunpoint a couple walking near West F Street the night before.
The armed robbery occurred about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Gilbert Avenue, south of F Street. The couple told police they were heading south from a bus stop when a small, silver sport utility vehicle drove up facing them.
Oakdale police said the robbers used the vehicle's high beams to blind the victims before two men got out of the vehicle. One of the men had a large handgun.
The robbers demanded money from the victims, who gave them what they had.
Police said the woman tried running away, but one of the robbers chased her and knocked her to the ground. The robber tried to take her purse while she was on the ground.
The woman's boyfriend turned to help her, but he was hit in the head with the handgun. He suffered minor injuries.
Police said the woman began to scream, which scared off the robbers, who left the area heading north.
Officers responded to the scene and found the two victims. Police said the man was bleeding from his head, and the woman was very distraught.
Police described the robbers as Latinos, both clean shaven. One robber stood about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighed about 150 pounds and had tattoos around his neck. The other stood about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed about 160 pounds and had short brown hair.
