Modesto police are looking for an armed man who wore a superhero mask when he robbed two Modesto businesses Monday.
The first robbery happened at 2 p.m. at Check 'N' Go Cashing, 1717 Oakdale Road. The man, wearing a Captain America mask, entered the business, brandished a handgun and demanded money, according to Lt. Rick Armendariz. He then walked behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from a register. The man left the store and was seen fleeing in a white passenger vehicle, possibly a Ford Focus.
As officers were investigating the first robbery, a second was reported about 2:30 p.m. at the William
Douglas Jewelry store at 3020 Floyd Ave. Employees at the jewelry store also reported that an armed man wearing a Captain America mask had entered and demanded money, Armendariz said. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing in a white passenger vehicle.
Investigators believe the same man committed both robberies. He is described as possibly Latino, in his mid-20s to 30s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, with a heavyset build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt, black pants and the mask.
