Modesto woman sentenced in DVD, CD counterfeit case

MODESTO -- A 39-year-old Modesto woman on Monday was sentenced to three years and 10 months in federal prison for making counterfeit music DVDs and CDs, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Vicenta Munoz-Peralta was convicted of conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement and traffic in counterfeit labels and counterfeit documentation and packaging.

Federal prosecutors said Munoz-Peralta and others manufactured the DVDs in a co-defendant's Modesto garage from April 2011 through July 25, 2011.

Blank disks, computers, disk replicating machines, two copy machines, scanners and about 50 printers were found in the garage. Several thousand counterfeit DVDs and CDs also were stored at the Modesto home.

The prosecutors said Munoz-Peralta managed the day-to-day distribution at the home and was paid monthly. Munoz-Peralta also operated vendor stands every week at the Modesto Seventh Street Flea Market, selling counterfeit music CDs.

More than $2 million in counterfeit DVDs and CDs was produced.
