-- A Modesto teenager suffered minor injuries Monday morning when a car hit her as she walked to school.

The 13-year-old girl, a student at nearby Roosevelt Junior High School, was walking south in the crosswalk on College Avenue at about 8 a.m. when a man driving a sport utility vehicle was making a left turn from College onto eastbound Orangeburg Avenue, according to officer Jaime Cox of the Modesto Police Department.

The driver said his vision became obstructed, possibly by the glare of the morning sun, Cox said.

The girl flew about 15 feet onto the sidewalk. There were no apparent signs of broken bones or major injuries. The girl complained of pain, Cox said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, mainly as a precaution, according to Lt. Rick Armendariz. Her parents were immediately notified and were at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was distraught, according to Cox, and fully cooperated with officers. Both the driver and the girl had green lights, Cox said.
