In the emotional bloodbath following the devastating defeat of the Republican Party and the election of President Barack Obama, it appears many states, mostly southern ones, feel it is time to unburden them from the restraints of being in the Union and like their great-grandfathers before them secede. Old habits die hard.
In the words of the Nixon conservatives during the late 60s and early 70s in response to those long-haired hippie anti-Vietnam protesters, "America: Love it or leave it." Go ahead, secede.
Think of the money our federal government would save if the states who wanted to secede did just that. This is one Republican idea that has merit.
