-- A Turlock police sergeant was hospitalized with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle on Friday night, authorities said.

Anthony Silva was called to an area near South Berkeley Avenue at 6:31 p.m. on a report of a possible burglary in progress, according to spokeswoman Mayra Lewis of the Turlock Police Department.

Silva arrived at the scene and located two "subjects", Lewis said. As he waited for backup units, Silva was struck by a vehicle not involved in the suspected crime.

Silva was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was listed Friday night in stable condition. He's expected to recover from his injuries, Lewis said.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with officers. There was no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in accident.

There was no immediate word about the alleged burglary and status of the subjects Silva had located.
