MODESTO -- Nine-year-old Robert could use some house slippers, shoes and a coat. And he'd like a pair of skates and some games.
Roxanne is 8 and needs clothes, boots, shoes and socks. She'd love to have perfume, Barbies and "girlie things."
Robert and Roxanne are two of the 1,180 tags left at the Soroptimist Community Christmas Tree, up through Dec. 19 at Vintage Faire Mall.
Co-chairwoman JoAnn Found said the project is well on its way to serving 3,000 needy Stanislaus County children.
Shoppers stop by the tree, located on the second floor of the mall outside the Forever 21 store, sign out a tag and then buy gifts for the child represented.
"So many of our children need basic essentials," Found said in an e-mail. "Help give them a memorable Christmas morning by sharing in the Spirit of Giving!"
