Thanks to Gov. Jerry Brown and all those who voted to raise more money for our schools. We can already see the progress being made. Sure, there are some school districts like Denair that are approaching insolvency, but you should be happy to know that the chancellor of UC Berkeley was still able to get a $50,000 raise. This brings the total pay to $486,000. Doesn't that just warm your hearts?
To put the raise in perspective, the median salary for California is $56,000. And the president's salary is $400,000. But, what the heck. Even though most people are taking a pay cut, and the president is only a civil servant, doesn't the chancellor of our college deserve the raise and that salary? True, the chancellor isn't the commander in chief of the armed forces of the United States, but it still is a pretty important job, isn't it?
Now we know why the tuition keeps going up so fast. We need to be able to afford the best chancellor we can. Keep up the good work, UC system. I'm sure all of the taxpayers and students of the UC system agree.
