San Francisco should produce its own water

Your Nov. 27 editorial, "Desalinization is a costly proposal," does not represent our local interest.

What is the value of guaranteeing a water supply free of worry about future drought? Why should San Francisco be allowed to take water that we need locally when it has the ability to produce its own water?

How much would the water bill of the big-city customer increase if the cost of desalinization were spread among all users?

Asserting that converting salt water to fresh water is too expensive is comparable to stating that electric vehicles shouldn't be made because they are too expensive.

Over time, as technology improves, costs drop. But if the technology isn't used, it won't be improved and California will be doomed to a future of chronic water shortages.
