Suspect sought in West Modesto shooting

Stanislaus County sheriff's officials were looking for a suspect who tried to rob a man Saturday morning and shot the victim before leaving the crime scene in west Modesto.

The injured 47-year-old suffered a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stabilized Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred about 11 a.m. on Figaro Avenue, just west of Colorado Avenue.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and found the injured man.

The deputies learned that the victim was shot during the attempted robbery.

Sheriff's officials described the suspect as Latino, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 120 to 150 pounds. He had dark hair, a goatee and black clothing.
