-- Golden Valley was a little over five minutes away from a trip to the semifinals at the Modesto City Schools Tournament, but couldn’t close it out on Thursday night.

Evan Stillahn paced the Cougars (1-1) with 15 points, while Ben Fletcher chipped in 12 and Dusty Nunes added 10.

It wasn't enough. Grace Davis outscored GV 14-3 down the stretch to pull out a 55-54 victory at Downey High.

Pitman 56, Los Banos 45

Delvonte Moore poured in a game-high 17 points, but a poor third quarter doomed the Tigers in a loss to Pitman.

Central Catholic 70, Merced 45

Jonathan Chairez scored a team-high 14 and Travante Richard added 13, but the Bears couldn't overcome a poor start against Central Catholic.
