Modesto JC women hold down Las Positas

LIVERMORE -- The Modesto Junior College women's basketball team turned a close game at halftime into its fifth straight win, a 58-34 victory Tuesday night over Las Positas.

The Pirates (7-1) led by only 24-19 before center Jamie Beck and forward Madelyn Birchall keyed a pull-away during the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Point guard Camille Roberts hit all three of MJC's triples en route to 13 points. Modesto featured balanced scoring from Jode Johnson with 12 points, Birchall with 11 and Beck with 10.

Men's Basketball

The Claim Jumpers (2-4) rallied from a 13-point deficit with 12 minutes left to catch the Mustangs (2-3). Jarron Crump (13 points), Thomas Richardson (12 points), Jalen Bourbon and Demetrius Muses all helped Columbia down the stretch. Both teams missed a pair of free throws in the final six seconds of regulation. Delta led 29-22 at halftime.
