Many events set at Stanislaus library branches

-- Residents of all ages can turn to the Stanislaus County Library and several of its branches for activities that will keep them occupied and engaged in the month ahead.

The fun includes a teen game night in Patterson, a concert by the Youth Harp Ensemble in Modesto and a performance of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in Salida.

Here is a rundown:

CERES

Adults can learn techniques for staining glass at the Ceres library Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. and Dec. 8 at noon. Participants are asked to bring a glass object, such as a votive candleholder or a clear glass ornament. Stains and other supplies will be provided. Learn how to turn any glass object from drab to fab and create a work of art. For more information, call the Ceres library at (209) 537-8938. The library is at 2250 Magnolia St.

DENAIR

The Friends of the Denair Library will hold a holiday boutique at the library Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Seasonal decorations and handmade crafts will be for sale, with all proceeds going toward new materials and children's programs at the library. MODESTO

The Youth Harp Ensemble, directed by Margie Butler, will perform festive holiday music Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Modesto library. For more information, call the reference department at (209) 558-7814.

Children ages 12 to 18 can make bottle cap magnets at the Modesto library Dec. 5 at 3:30 p.m. For more information, call the children's department at (209) 558-7810.

"Python Ron" McGee brings members of the reptile kingdom to the Modesto library Dec. 8 at noon and 2 p.m. During the programs, live reptiles will be showcased and children will have the opportunity to learn about reptilian species. PATTERSON

Teens can practice tactics and teamwork while playing Wii video games and board and card games Wednesday at 4 p.m. during teen game night at the Patterson library. A button-making craft will be offered. Young adult books will be on display and available for checkout. For more information, call the Patterson library at (209) 892-6473.

Join the Patterson library and the local scrapbooking group Scrappin' in Patterson at the library Dec. 8 at noon. Participants are encouraged to bring materials and can learn how to get started in scrapbooking or work on continuing projects. For more information, call the Patterson library at (209) 892-6473. SALIDA

Community members will perform Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Nick W. Blom Salida Regional Library on Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. This production will be directed by the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival.
